Noise barrier specification is harmonised to EN 1793 (acoustics) and EN 1794 (mechanical performance and durability) and most projects require CE marking with a Technical Construction File. The recent trend in the EU is toward higher-performance metal-louvred absorption panels in 100-120 mm depths with optional transparent PC windows for community acceptability, and a growing interest in solar PV-integrated noise barriers as demonstrated by several pilot projects in the Netherlands and Germany.

Corrosion class is typically C3-C4 for coastal highway projects and C4-C5-M for mining-sector industrial projects.

Southeast Asia: rapid infrastructure growth and high-speed rail expansion

Southeast Asia is the fastest-growing noise barrier market globally. Rapid highway expansion in Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Thailand, combined with flagship high-speed rail projects such as the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail in Indonesia and the Malaysia-Singapore high-speed rail, generate substantial demand for noise barrier & acoustic barrier products. Specification in Southeast Asia typically references EN 1793 and EN 1794 with some projects also referencing ASTM standards. Climate considerations include high ambient humidity and, in coastal regions, high salt atmosphere requiring ISO 12944 class C4-M corrosion protection.
