noise barrier highway railway
Yukings · noise barrier & sound barrier manufacturer Since 2006

Semi-enclosed & semi-covered noise barriers — U-shaped 3-sided enclosure that wraps around the noise source, delivering up to 45 dB insertion loss for highways, railways and industrial plants.

Yukings semi-enclosed noise barriers (also called semi-covered or U-shaped noise walls) extend the conventional vertical barrier with a cantilevered cover plate over the source side, creating a 3-sided enclosure that dramatically reduces direct sound radiation and diffraction over the top. Ideal for high-speed railways, urban ring roads, industrial plant boundaries and noise-sensitive residential districts.

Product Overview

Semi-Enclosed Noise Barriers — U-Shaped 3-Sided Profile

The semi-enclosed or U-shaped noise barrier geometry wraps the noise source on 3 sides — two vertical absorptive walls plus a cantilevered cover plate extending over the source. This dramatically reduces direct sound radiation and diffraction over the barrier top, delivering +8-15 dB of additional effective attenuation compared to an equivalent-height vertical flat-top wall, at a fraction of the cost of a fully-enclosed acoustic tunnel.

What is it

U-shaped 3-sided noise barrier with cantilevered cover plate.

Yukings semi-enclosed noise barriers combine standard vertical absorptive hybrid panels with a cantilevered steel cover plate extending over the noise source side. The cover plate is fabricated from hot-dip galvanized steel with an absorptive underside treatment and is supported by reinforced H-post columns. The resulting U-shaped geometry creates an extended acoustic shadow zone on the receiver side without the full structural cost of a 4-sided tunnel enclosure.

  • High-speed railway corridors and urban light-rail transit
  • Highway expressways, ring roads and elevated viaducts
  • Industrial plant, power station and compressor station perimeter walls
  • Standard 2500 mm wide modular panels, 500 mm height modules
  • 1.0 m to 3.5 m adjustable cantilevered cover plate projection
  • Optional 8/10/12 mm polycarbonate transparent window sections

Frequently Asked

Semi-Enclosed Noise Barriers — FAQs

Commonly asked technical, commercial and logistics questions about Yukings semi-enclosed U-shaped noise barriers.

What is the difference between a semi-enclosed, fully-enclosed and vertical flat-top noise barrier?
A flat-top (vertical) barrier is a simple 2-sided wall and is the most cost-effective option. A semi-enclosed U-shaped barrier adds a cantilevered cover plate over the noise source side, creating a 3-sided enclosure that delivers +8-15 dB additional attenuation compared to an equivalent-height vertical wall, but at less than half the structural cost of a fully-enclosed tunnel. A fully-enclosed barrier creates a complete 4-sided acoustic tunnel or sound hood for the highest attenuation at the most noise-sensitive urban projects.
What is the cantilevered cover plate projection range for semi-enclosed barriers?
Yukings semi-enclosed noise barriers use an adjustable cantilevered hot-dip galvanized steel cover plate with a projection of 1.0 m to 3.5 m over the noise source side, tuned to your specific barrier height, noise source distance and receiver sensitivity requirements.
What H-post column sizes are used for semi-enclosed noise barriers?
Semi-enclosed barriers require reinforced H-beam posts engineered to support the cantilevered cover plate under wind load. Yukings uses H 150x150x8x10 to H 200x200x9x14 hot-dip galvanized steel columns at 2.0 m or 2.5 m bays, depending on the cover plate projection and total barrier height.
What is the design service life and warranty?
Semi-enclosed barriers are designed for a 25-year service life with a 15-year structural warranty on Yukings-manufactured panels, cover plates and H-post columns. Corrosion protection is ISO 12944 C3-M / C4-H for coastal and industrial service; optional RAL powder coat is available for enhanced color retention.
What test certificates and documentation do you provide for tenders?
Yukings provides EN 1793 insertion loss, EN 1794 air-borne sound insulation, EN ISO 717-1 Rw, EN 13501-1 fire rating, EN 1991-1-4 wind load calculation, foundation design and full CE marking documentation with every semi-enclosed noise barrier project, suitable for international public tenders.
